Architecture / Jugendstil-Building / Grand Opening Resumée
The Grand Opening // The Jugendstil-Building of the Kunsthalle Mannheim reopened after a three year restoration-period on October 18 with a “Grand Opening”. The restoration of the museum aimed to optimise energy usage and constitutes a unique building project in Germany, generously funded by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. The historical sequence of galleries was reinstalled as were the skylights in the Oberlicht-galleries. During the “Grand Opening” the Jugendstil-Building stood solely in its architectural noblesse, no artworks were on display. More than 5.000 visitors enjoyed the four-day long "Grand Opening" with its exceptional events and praised the successful restoration as “very elegant and classy”.
