For STUDIO, artist Elisaveta Braslavskaja develops a site-specific project in which she visually explores the multifaceted concept of the divan—understood as an object of memory, a literary space, and a repository of narratives and forms.
At the center of the exhibition is a hybrid object onto which textile applications, or “patches,” are integrated. The motifs of the embroidery are taken from both Persian miniature painting and stories collected by the artist from relatives.
Braslavskaja's formalisation not only shows how the divan is connected to personal and collective stories, but also reflects on the potential of ornamentation as a form of language and perception.
Elisaveta Braslavskaja (*1997 in Marburg) studied at the Cooper Union in New York and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, where she graduated as a master student in 2023.
