Aus verschiedenen Flugzeugteilen ist ein neuen Objekt zusammengebaut.

In Ju Young Kim’s (*1991 in Seoul, South Korea) installations and sculptures, contrasting visual worlds frequently collide. The artist combines elements of Art Nouveau with industrial airplane components, drawing on a wide range of materials and techniques – including metal, stained glass, ceramics, and plastic. These seemingly surreal components form a curious interplay that can at times evoke a sense of estrangement. Viewing the world through the lens of a traveler navigating between continents, Kim repeatedly explores questions of space, time, and the notion of “in-between.”

For the STUDIO at Kunsthalle Mannheim, Kim transforms the space into an Incognito Apartment. Rather than creating a true home, she constructs a temporary transitional space that reflects on the impermanence of contemporary living environments. Familiar domestic elements – such as lace curtains – encounter components from an industrial context. Visitors are invited to step into this immersive installation and reflect on their own perceptions of home and identity.
