STUDIO: Simona Andrioletti

The critical observation of society and its social dynamics is central to Simona Andrioletti’s artistic
practice. In her sculptural works and installations, the artist responds to the upheavals of our
present. She addresses themes such as socio-political activism, violence, uprootedness, and
psychological defense mechanisms. Her ongoing interest includes issues such as the
disadvantages faced by individuals affected by discrimination.
For the installation A Litany for Survival at STUDIO, the artist combines a video installation with
textiles that aesthetically resemble demonstration banners, featuring slogans related to mental
health and sexual violence. For the video piece, the musical album Canti delle Donne in Lotta
("Songs of Women in Struggle") by the feminist women's movement in Rome from 1975 serves as
the starting point. Andrioletti involved five musicians to reinterpret a song from the album, filming
them in front of or within monumental fascist architecture. Visitors to the exhibition will experience
the power and strength of language as well as images as they read the slogans on the textiles,
follow the lyrics of the songs, and witness the singers reclaiming patriarchal spaces with the
power of their bodies and voices.
