Einstieg
Hans Uhlmann war Diplom-Ingenieur und begann erst als Berufstätiger auch künstlerisch tätig zu werden und erste Skulpturen zu schaffen. Sein Interesse galt hierbei weniger der expressiven Gestaltung als vielmehr dem ästhetischen Formverständnis aus naturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive. Uhlmann ließ sich von den vielfältigen Phänomenen seiner Umwelt inspirieren und untersuchte sie auf ihre mathematischen und physikalischen Gesetzmäßigkeiten, ihre organischen Strukturen und räumlichen Bezüge.
Das Werk »Vogelwesen« zeigt sich als filigrane Metallplastik, die sich aus einem frei geformten Draht und seinem Sockel zusammensetzt. Die Statik und Geschlossenheit der traditionellen Plastik wird aufgelöst, sodass das Metallgeflecht scheint als spannungsvolles Linienspiel im Raum zu schweben scheint. Nur entfernt lässt der geschwungene Formkomplex an die Figur eines Vogels denken; das Werk verbildlicht vielmehr die abstrakte Idee des Künstlers von der räumlich-dynamischen Gestalt des Tieres. Das verdeutlicht, wie sehr die Arbeiten Uhlmanns in der Tradition des russischen Konstruktivismus stehen.

Hans Uhlmann was a graduate engineer and began to be artistically active and create his first sculptures while pursuing his original profession. More interested in understanding aesthetic form from a scientific perspective than in expressive design, Uhlmann was inspired by the variety of phenomena of his environment, examining them with respect to their mathematical and physical laws, their organic structures, and spatial relationships.
»Bird-Like Creature« is a filigree metal sculpture composed of a freely formed wire and a pedestal. It transcends the static, closed quality of traditional sculpture in such a way that the metal configuration becomes a tension-filled play of lines floating in space. The undulating formal complex is only vaguely reminiscent of the figure of a bird. Instead, the work lends visual form to the artist’s abstract idea of the animal’s spatial-dynamic form, underlining the extent to which Uhlmann’s work can be seen in the tradition of Russian Constructivism.
